FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does the ranking system work?
Rank Your Games uses a pairwise comparison method inspired by Flickchart. You're shown two games side by side and pick your favourite. Over time, these head-to-head choices build a personalised ranked list — no star ratings needed.
What is the Elo rating system?
Elo is a mathematical rating system originally used in chess. Each game starts at a rating of 1500. When you pick a winner, the winner gains points and the loser loses points — how many depends on the difference in their current ratings. Games rise and fall naturally as you make more comparisons.
How many duels does it take to get an accurate ranking?
Rankings become more accurate with more duels. Generally, 10–20 per game produces reliable results. There's nothing to configure: the Duel tab already favours the games you've compared least, and about a third of the time it pits two of your top games against each other, since that's where the ordering is hardest and matters most.
Can I re-rank a game I've already compared?
Yes. Tap any ranked game in the Ranking tab to start a re-ranking session. You'll play it against five opponents, and they aren't picked at random: it starts near the middle of your list and narrows after every answer, the way you'd find a word in a dictionary. Five duels are enough to place a game to within a few positions.
How do I add games to rank?
The first time you open the app, a grid of well-known games gets you started — tap the ones you've played and they become your first ranking. After that, use the Search tab to find anything else from a library of 200,000+ titles powered by IGDB, and tap a game to add it. You can also save games to your waiting list to rank later.
What is the waiting list for?
The waiting list holds games you're interested in before you're ready to rank them. Tap the heart on any card or search result to add one. When you're ready, open the list from the You tab and add it to your ranking.
What is Discover?
Once you've ranked ten games, the Discover tab starts suggesting what to play next. It reads your own ranking — which games you put above which — and asks a language model for titles that fit, each with one sentence on why it picked that game for you. You can rank a suggestion straight away, save it to your waiting list, or say you've already played it.
Only game titles, their ratings within your list, your waiting list and your platforms are sent. Your name, email and account ID are not. See the privacy policy below.
Is my data backed up?
Yes. Your ranking, your duels and your waiting list are stored on our servers, not just on your phone, so they survive a change of device. If you sign in with Apple, Google or GitHub, you get them back by signing in on any iPhone.
How do I delete my account or data?
In the app, the You tab has "Reset all data" and "Delete account". You can also email [email protected] with the subject "Delete My Account".

What data we collect
Rank Your Games collects only the data necessary to provide the ranking service:
- Account information — If you sign in with Apple, Google or GitHub, we receive the name and email address that provider gives us. This is used solely to identify your account. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real address, and the app works normally with a relay one.
- Game rankings and duels — Your ranked games, Elo ratings, and duel history are stored in our database (Supabase) so your rankings sync across devices and persist between sessions.
- Waiting list — Games you save for later are stored in your account.
Game data
Game metadata (titles, cover art, platform info, ratings) is fetched from the IGDB API (owned by Twitch/Amazon).
Anonymous use
You may use the app without signing in. We still create an anonymous account for you, so your rankings are saved and synced the same way — it simply holds no name, no email and nothing you did not enter yourself. Your games are stored on our servers under that account, not only on your device.
The key to an anonymous account is kept in your device's keychain, so deleting the app loses access to it. Signing in at any point attaches that same account to you permanently, keeping everything you ranked before.
Discover recommendations
When you open Discover, we send the titles in your ranking together with their ratings, your waiting list, the games you've already turned down, and the platforms you filter by, to a language model that suggests what to play next. Your name, your email address and your account ID are never included. The request is made by our server, not by your device, and the reply is only used to produce the suggestions you see.
How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Save and display your game rankings
- Sync your data across your devices
- Provide duel history
- Produce your Discover recommendations
We do not sell your data, and we never use it for advertising or profiling. The one time any of it leaves our own systems is the Discover request described above, and only the parts listed there.
Third-party services
- Supabase — Database and authentication provider. Data is stored on Supabase servers. See Supabase's privacy policy.
- IGDB (Twitch) — Game data API. See Twitch's privacy notice.
- OpenRouter — Routes the Discover request to a language model. It receives the game titles in your ranking with their ratings, plus your waiting list and platforms. It does not receive your name, your email or your account ID. See OpenRouter's privacy policy.
- Apple, Google and GitHub — Optional sign-in providers. See the privacy policies of Apple, Google and GitHub.
This website
This site — separately from the app — loads Google Tag Manager, which may set cookies and record visits for traffic measurement. That is about the website, not about anything you do inside the app: nothing from your rankings, duels or waiting list reaches it.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. To delete your account and all associated data, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete My Account".
