First things first: they are not the same kind of app
A tracker answers "what have I played, what am I playing, what is left?". Its unit is the log entry: a game, a status, a date, sometimes a score and a review. Rank Your Games answers a different question: "of everything I've played, what comes first?". Its unit is the duel: two games, you pick one, and the list reorders itself with chess's Elo. It does not ask for statuses or stars because it does not need them to sort, and it does not offer them because it is not a diary.
Backloggd, in facts
Read on backloggd.com on October 26, 2026:
- Web, no official apps. Its FAQ answers "not at this time" to the mobile-app question; the site is optimised for phones. The similarly named apps on the App Store are third-party.
- Free ("there is no cost"), with an optional Backer tier at $3 a month on Patreon: no ads, a badge and an all-time stats page.
- Statuses: Played, Playing, Backlog and Wishlist; within Played, Completed, Abandoned, Retired and Shelved. A dated journal, hours played and the platform you own it on.
- Half-star ratings out of five, reviews, and lists you can flag as ranked (you order them yourself, by hand).
- Social: you follow people and your home page is their activity: reviews, lists, what they are playing.
- IGDB catalogue, the same one we use: 379,000 games according to its home page.
- No duels. There is no way to compare two games head-to-head, and no personal order of your whole collection that builds itself.
Infinite Backlog, in facts
Read on infinitebacklog.net the same day:
- A web app that asks you to add it to your home screen "without having to download the app from the iTunes or the Google Play store". Mind the name: the app called "Infinite Backlog" on the iPhone App Store is something else, a puzzle game by a different developer published in October 2026.
- Free, with a Patreon for supporters; they promise never to lock core features behind a paywall.
- Its strength is importing: you connect your gaming accounts by username (no passwords, profile set to public) and it pulls your games, achievements and trophies and hours played. Anything not on a connected platform, like Nintendo or retro, is added by hand.
- Statuses: Unplayed, Playing and Played; within Played, Unfinished, Beaten, Completed and Continuous ("beaten" is seeing the credits; "completed", the 100%). Reviews carry a score out of 10 with sub-scores for visuals, gameplay, story, audio and playability.
- Detailed entries: progress, ownership, purchase details, physical condition, DLC and tags, with filters to find any of it.
- Friends: a feed of what they play and finish, reviews and posts, and leaderboards for who collects or completes most.
- IGDB catalogue as well; only main games and standalone expansions can be added.
- No duels, same as Backloggd.
Rank Your Games, in facts
- Native iPhone app, in English and Spanish. No web version, no Android.
- One-time purchase, no subscription and nothing to buy inside. The exact price is whatever the App Store shows for your country.
- No account required. You can use it anonymously; signing in with Apple, Google or GitHub is for keeping the list across devices.
- The method is the duel. Two games, you pick one, Elo moves both. The first ranking comes from a grid of games you probably know, in a minute; after that, any game is re-placed with five duels chosen like a binary search. How it works, with what we measured.
- A top 100 that tells you what climbed and slipped since you last looked, a poster of your top 10 to share, a waiting list, platform filtering, and Discover, which reads your ranking to suggest what to play next.
- Duels outside the app: a Home Screen widget and one duel a week by notification, answerable without opening it.
- The same IGDB catalogue, 200,000+ games.
- What it does not have: play statuses, hours, achievements, reviews, a dated journal, Steam or PlayStation import, or friends.

Where we lose
If you want a diary, Backloggd beats us at everything a diary does: statuses, dates, reviews and a community that reads them. If what you want is your Steam and PlayStation collections in one place, with hours and trophies, Infinite Backlog imports them and we don't even try. Both are free, work in any browser and on Android; we are paid and iPhone-only. None of those three things will change in a small update.
Where we win
On the question the others don't ask. A tracker with 200 four-star games doesn't know which one is your number one, and the hand-ordered list is the chore nobody finishes. Here the order is the product: each duel costs a second, asks for no score, and the list stays alive by itself. And in what it has as an iPhone app: no account, a minute to the first ranking, a widget, one notification a week with a duel inside.
Both at once?
Yes, and it is what I would do: the diary in a tracker and the order here. They don't overlap, because they don't store the same thing. What does not exist today is a bridge between them: Rank Your Games neither imports your Backloggd list nor exports to it. If that holds you back, tell us at support@rankyourgames.app; it is the kind of thing the people who write decide.
The Backloggd and Infinite Backlog facts come from their own sites on October 26, 2026. If something has changed, write to us and we will correct it.
If the order is what you're missing, the first ranking takes a minute.
